Kargi Kala Kendra students and faculty

About our school

Lineage, heart, and twenty years of teaching.

Our mission

We nurture disciplined, expressive dancers who carry forward Bharatanatyam with integrity—honoring the past while inspiring young people in the present.

Classes balance rigorous technique (nritta), expressive storytelling (abhinaya), and theory so students understand not only the “how” but the “why” behind the art. We celebrate milestones—from first arangetram preparations to community performances—and support each student as a whole person, not only a performer.

Leadership

Our faculty brings decades of training in the Chennai tradition.

Sudha Kargi

Sudha Kargi

Sudha is a versatile dancer, patient teacher, and creative choreographer. She trained in Chennai under Guru Kalaimamani Late Thanjai Jayalakshmi Arunachalam and Master Arunachalam Pillai—respected nattuvanar lineage from the Mylapore community. She continued advanced study with Guru Dr. Sindoori, including group productions. Her teaching emphasizes clear fundamentals and respect for classical structure.

Sahana Kargi

Sahana Kargi

Sahana grew up in the classroom beside her mother, falling in love with the sound of ankle bells and the richness of costume and choreography. She completed her Salangai Pooja and Arangetram at a young age and continues to perform and mentor younger students. After relocating to Utah, she helps build a welcoming community for dancers who share that same passion.

Sanjana Kargi

Sanjana Kargi

Sanjana is a dedicated and accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer who completed her Arangetram in 2019. Passionate about the arts, she strives to foster a deep appreciation for classical dance among young audiences while continuing to evolve her own craft. With a love for choreography, she enjoys blending tradition with innovation, bringing a modern perspective to Bharatanatyam.

Why Bharatanatyam?

Rooted in Tamil temple tradition and refined in the concert stage, Bharatanatyam develops musicality, strength, focus, and confidence. Students learn to tell stories with eyes and hands, work in precise rhythm cycles, and appreciate India’s cultural heritage in a supportive studio environment.
