Kargi Kala Kendra was established in 2010 to propagate the traditional aspects of Bharatanatyam and to nurture students natural desire to dance. It was founded by Guru. Sudha Kargi and co-founded by Kum. Sahana Kargi.

About Sudha Kargi

Sudha Kargi is a versatile dancer, patient teacher, and creativite choreographer. She learned this art form in Chennai, India under Guru Kalaimamani Late Thanjai Jayalakshmi Arunachalam, Master Arunachalam Pillai. They were well-known gurus in the Mylapore neighborhood of Chennai. They hailed from a nattuvanar parampara. Guru Late. Jayalakshmi Arunachalam, served as a teacher for Lady Sivaswamy school and professor for Chennai Tamilnadu Government music college. Later, Sudha continued her journey under Guru Dr. Sindoori where she had an opportunity to be part of group productions. Sudha has given a lot of solo and group performances throughout India and the United States.

She has received honors such as the

  • “Natya Kala Jyothi”
  • “Yuva Kala Bharathi” in Chennai, India
  • Won the Idaho Fellowship Award and
  • State Government Awards as a best dancer and teacher for 5 consecutive years.

Sudha has a great passion and patience for teaching. She has 20 years of experience in teaching and nurturing budding talent. Besides teaching the dance curriculum, Sudha also teaches the cultural aspects and morals of Bharatanatyam’s legacy. These bridges thousands of miles worth of cultural separation by helping the students form a connection to their heritage. She has trained more than 200 students who have won laurels and recognition for their distinctive performances. Sudha is currently teaching along with her daughter Sahana in her home studio at Sandy, Utah. Her classes cover both theoretical and practical aspects of Bharatanatyam.
